Guarantee questions

What does the MPE Guarantee cover?

If a card in an intact MPE holder is later determined to be counterfeit, altered or trimmed, misgraded by a full grade or more, misattributed, or damaged by a defect in our holder, MPE will buy the card back at the greater of its documented purchase price or current market value, or regrade it and pay the difference. The claimant chooses.

Do I have to be the person who submitted the card?

No. The guarantee runs with the card, not the submitter. Any current owner can claim it, which is what makes it worth something to a buyer on the secondary market.

How long does the guarantee last?

There is no expiry for counterfeit, alteration or misattribution claims. A grade is an opinion at a point in time, so grade-accuracy claims run for five years from the grading date.

What if the slab has been opened?

The guarantee applies to cards in an intact, unaltered MPE holder. Once a slab is cracked we can no longer certify that the card inside is the card we graded, so the guarantee ends with the seal.
