If we get it wrong, we buy the card back. A grade is only worth what the company behind it will stand on. This page is what we will stand on, in writing.
If a card in an intact, unaltered MPE holder is later determined to be any of the following, it is covered by this guarantee:
At the claimant's election, MPE will either:
Market value is determined from recent completed public sales of the same card in the same grade. Where the parties cannot agree, we will use the higher of the available comparable sales.
The guarantee runs with the card, not with the person who submitted it. Any current owner may claim it, whether they submitted the card, bought it from us, or bought it from a third party on the secondary market.
This is deliberate. A guarantee that only protects the original submitter is worth nothing to the person actually taking the risk — the buyer.
Counterfeit, alteration and misattribution claims have no expiry. A card that was never genuine does not become genuine with time, and we will not hide behind a clock on the one thing that matters most.
Grade-accuracy claims run for five years from the grading date. Grading standards and the condition of a card both move over time, so an accuracy claim is assessed against the standard published at the time of grading.
Email grade@mpegrading.com with the certification number and photographs of the slab, front and back. We will respond within five business days with a decision or a request for the card to be sent in for inspection.
Every card MPE encapsulates is recorded with a unique certification number, photographed front and back at the time of grading, and committed to a public cryptographic record that anyone can verify independently — including against us. If we ever altered a record after the fact, the proof would stop matching, and that mismatch would be visible to everyone.
That record is what makes this guarantee enforceable rather than decorative: a claim can always be settled against what we actually graded, not against what anyone remembers or asserts later.
Verify any card at cert lookup, or check the cryptographic record directly at /api/public/anchor/latest.
This guarantee is offered in addition to your statutory rights and sits alongside our Terms of Service. Where this guarantee is more generous than the liability limits in those terms, this guarantee governs.
If a card in an intact MPE holder is later determined to be counterfeit, altered or trimmed, misgraded by a full grade or more, misattributed, or damaged by a defect in our holder, MPE will buy the card back at the greater of its documented purchase price or current market value, or regrade it and pay the difference. The claimant chooses.
No. The guarantee runs with the card, not the submitter. Any current owner can claim it, which is what makes it worth something to a buyer on the secondary market.
There is no expiry for counterfeit, alteration or misattribution claims. A grade is an opinion at a point in time, so grade-accuracy claims run for five years from the grading date.
The guarantee applies to cards in an intact, unaltered MPE holder. Once a slab is cracked we can no longer certify that the card inside is the card we graded, so the guarantee ends with the seal.
